Synopsis

Adaptation de la pièce de Brad Fraser. L'action gravite autour d'un groupe de personnages jeunes et cyniques qui recherchent l'amour sous toutes ses formes et vivent dans un univers assez superficiel. Autour d'eux sévit un tueur en série qui fait peser sa menace. Un film sur l'aspect glauque de la vie urbaine nord-américaine, sur une génération à la recherche du bonheur et en mal de repères. Que le film ait été tourné en anglais et dans un style inhabituel pour Arcand en a dérouté plusieurs.

Love and Human Remains is basically an offbeat examination of love and sex in the 90's, one that doesn't shy away from the creepier, weirder aspects of the issues at hand. The film never really delivers any solutions to the problems it focuses on, this is apparent by noticing that none of the main characters escape the myriad of problems that plague their lives. It's never too bleak though, there is a balance of humour and pathos. The only real weakness in Love and Human Remains is the serial-killer subplot. If it was intended to be a metaphor, they made it too disjointed and obscure, its emergence at the end felt sorely out of place. But still, this is a striking film, not for all tastes, but it definitely leaves the kind of impact that's hard to describe, and even harder to forget. (Dossier de presse)
